I thought I’d open here with discussion on the topic of exotic tea and a brief summery of tea types.
Since tea is foreign in origin, all teas are exotic by definition, but apart from being grown outside our borders the many blends, flavorings and varied growing and processing methods produce a myriad of striking and unusual taste experiences. It is this aspect of tea and particularly of exploring and purchasing tea online that really excites me. The only thing that excites me more is the life enhancing qualities of tea (especailly White tea). Tea is just about the best substance you can put into your daily diet. Two cups a day will do your body good.
The online tea shop allows an abundance of varieties available to us and is cost effective too. Here at The Exotic Tea House, I will share with you all I know about tea. There are so many options to consider and it is simply wonderful to be able to take your time to absorb, compare and browse from the comfort of your own home. I think that is just awesome.
Let’s start with the major producers of tea
There are four major producers of tea, India, China, Sri Lanka and Japan.
India
India is the largest tea producer in the world. It has overtaken China and produces approximately 1/3 of the world’s tea today. India’s pride is Darjeeling tea, known as “the champagne of teas”. It is grown in West Bengal’s Darjeeling region. Darjeeling is truly and exotic tea. This black tea combines hints of fruit, nut and flowers. It is considered on the of the world’s finest teas.
China
Another exquisite tea and unique flavor is Lypsang Souchong tea. This full-bodied Black tea is from Eastern China and is smoked over embers of pine. This exotic tea is wonderful to serve when entertaining guests or to simply savor as one unwinds from the day. China is also the major producer of White Tea. White Tea is the most wholesome of teas and has the most health benefits. Be sure not to miss the section on White Tea.
Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon)
Ceylon tea is a sweeter more delicate Black Tea. It has a hint of honey like taste to it, which is perfect for the morning such as French Breakfast Tea. Also high in the mountains at an altitude of 2200-2500 meters above sea level in the Nuwara Eliga region. Sri Lanka grows the finest White Tea. This exotic tea is lighter and milder than the rest with a hint of honey and pine.
Japan
Japan is also a major producer of Tea, but they export only 2% of what they grow. Japan is best known for it’s Green Teas
Types of tea
Black, White, Green and Oolong all come from the Camellia Sinesis plant. Camellia Sinesis is an evergreen shrub and is commonly known as the tea tree. The difference between these teas is, the leaves are plucked at various stages of development and are then processed using assorted methods.
Black tea leaves are fully matured and then fermented. Black Tea has a more robust flavor and the most caffeine of the teas. Caffeine builds up as the leaves mature.
White Tea leaves are plucked very young before they are completely opened. These infant leaves are still covered with fine silvery hairs, thus the name White Tea. After plucking they are immediately steamed and dried often right in the field. This process makes White Tea the most wholesome of the teas, it contains the highest levels of anti-oxidants and polyphenols and 1/3 the caffeine of Black Tea.
Oolong tea is partially fermented and falls in between Green and Black Tea.
Chai Tea is Black Tea which is strongly spiced and diluted with milk. There are also many flavored teas or “flowered teas”. Tea is flavored by adding herbs or flowers in with the tea leaves. This produces a vast array of intriguing gourmet tea blends. These combinations are practically limitless with an abundance of exquisite taste experiences.
In the sidebar you will find a link to a large selection and various varieties of the teas I’ve mentioned. Order some today and indulge yourself in this inexpensive luxury. Tea is truly a pleasure you won’t want to miss and two cups a day will improve your health.
